I’ve been a Koontz fan for more years than I’m willing to admit, and this is the first, and I hope only, Koontz book I have returned to the shelf unfinished.
I found it difficult to embrace the premise, and for the strangest of reasons I found the characterizations shallow almost two dimensional. I kept waiting for the characters to develop and blossom as have many characters, both protagonist and antagonist, often do in Mr. Koontz’ veritable litany of suspenseful tomes.
Maybe it was my frame of mind as I read or maybe The City was a complete divergence from my expectations of what I wanted to see in a Koontz novel, but the end result was disappointing to say the least.
